Enum Constant Detail

Append

public static final FileMode Append

Opens the file if it exists and seeks to the end of the file, or creates a new file. System.IO.FileMode.Append can only be used in conjunction with System.IO.FileAccess.Write. Attempting to seek to a position before the end of the file will throw an System.IO.IOException and any attempt to read fails and throws an System.NotSupportedException.

Create

Specifies that the operating system should create a new file. If the file already exists, it will be overwritten. System.IO.FileMode.Create is equivalent to requesting that if the file does not exist, use System.IO.FileMode.CreateNew; otherwise, use System.IO.FileMode.Truncate.

CreateNew

Specifies that the operating system should create a new file.

Open

public static final FileMode Open

Specifies that the operating system should open an existing file. The ability to open the file is dependent on the value specified by System.IO.FileAccess. A System.IO.FileNotFoundException is thrown if the file does not exist.

OpenOrCreate

public static final FileMode OpenOrCreate

Specifies that the operating system should open a file if it exists; otherwise, a new file should be created.

Truncate

public static final FileMode Truncate

Specifies that the operating system should open an existing file. Once opened, the file should be truncated so that its size is zero bytes.

public static FileMode[] values()

Returns an array containing the constants of this enum type, in the order they are declared. This method may be used to iterate over the constants as follows:

for (FileMode c : FileMode.values())
    System.out.println(c);

Returns:

an array containing the constants of this enum type, in the order they are declared

valueOf

public static FileMode valueOf(java.lang.String name)

Returns the enum constant of this type with the specified name. The string must match exactly an identifier used to declare an enum constant in this type. (Extraneous whitespace characters are not permitted.)

Parameters:

name - the name of the enum constant to be returned.

Returns:

the enum constant with the specified name

Throws:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException - if this enum type has no constant with the specified name

java.lang.NullPointerException - if the argument is null
